Take notes on these topics since we will be having our Socratic Seminar to discuss our findings on these MPA’s.

Do people value national parks and terrestrial areas that are protected the same way as marine protected areas
I think both are equally valued, although marine protected areas get polluted by boat, while national parks get polluted by cars. However for my map, the fee to enter the island goes towards keeping the mpa clean, so it balances out. It's harder to regulate amount of tourists visiting a terrestrial area but with marine protected areas they have a limit on the amount of people to snorkel through it in order to not scare away the fish or damage the coral reefs.
What ecological and human factors should be considered when establishing a marine protected area?
Waste management, over fishing. There was a lot of over fishing in my marine protected area, but the citizens realized this and stopped and built the protected area. However the change in fishing precautions can cause the food chain to be affected as there will be more of a certain species that used to have a smaller population, and will allow them to over power other species.
Are MPA the only way to protect natural and cultural resources of an area? Alternatives?
Educating people on the area, to inform them of its beauty, teach them in schools, have signs, posters. People need to know what they can and can't do because if they don't know and don't really care about it than they won't change what they are doing. Have community events where it makes learning about taking care of the environment fun. Have less industrial machines, make the area more eco-friendly.
What value do these MPA’s provide to society?
Tourism, makes money for the community near the mpa and goes towards taking care of the mpa. Protects endangered species and coral reefs that might not be found anywhere else in the world.
